What is Family Engagement?
Families are engaged when they partner with early learning programs to promote their children’s development, learning and wellness. Positive relationships between families and staff in early learning programs are the foundation for family engagement.
Partnering with Families for Children's Success
Family engagement supports school readiness for early grade success and prepares children for life. Family engagement is a shared responsibility of the Division of Early Learning, early learning coalitions and community partners, and providers to engage families in meaningful ways to actively support their children's learning, development and wellness.

Provider Tips for Promoting Family Engagement
During Family Engagement Month
- Post banners or signs celebrating families throughout your facility.
- Create a bulletin board with pictures of your children's and staffs‛ families. Post family activity tips and family friendly community events.
- Highlight family activities on social media posts.
- Share copies of the Family Engagement Month Calendar and post the calendar on your website.
- Host a family night or breakfast event.
- Share flyers on child development.
- Share DEL's Parents' Pages with families. Show parents how to sign up to receive them digitally.
- Complete the Family Engagement Checklist with the family.
- Create a Family Engagement Week at your school.
During Family Engagement Week
- Give parents family engagement materials. Ask your early learning coalition for family engagement materials or download them for free.
- Feature family engagement tips on social media posts. Highlight family engagement events on your website.
- Feature a family engagement Tip of the Day for each age level. Print the tip and give it to families.
- Ask families to share their favorite ways to be involved with their child‛s education. Ask families to post pictures of them engaging in their child‛s education on social media.
