Assessment Period 1 (AP1) Reminder

Florida Statute 1002.67(3) directs that each private prekindergarten provider and public school in the Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program must implement an evidence-based pre- and post-assessment that has been approved by rule of the State Board of Education. It is required for providers to administer the Florida VPK Assessment Period 1 (AP1) and Assessment Period 3 (AP3) in order to track child development over the course of the year.

Below you will find the administration and submission deadlines for the VPK assessment.  Please note, calendar days includes holidays and weekends.

ADMINISTRATION: (Conducting the child assessment)

  • AP1 - first thirty (30) calendar days of the VPK class schedule
  • AP2* - mid-program year
  • AP3 - last thirty (30) days of the VPK class schedule

DATA SUBMISSION: (Entering children's scores into Bright Beginnings)

  • AP1 - within forty-five (45) calendar days of the first day of the VPK class schedule
  • AP2* - mid-program year
  • AP3 - no later than fifteen (15) calendar days after the last day of the VPK class schedule

 *Providers on Probation who have chosen the Department of Education approved Staff Development Plan are also required to administer and submit data for Assessment Period 2. Providers who are not on probation are not required to administer Assessment Period 2 (AP2); however, strongly recommended.
